This is the frequently asked questions section of our website. There are answers to a few questions you might want to ask us here, if you do not find a desired answer or wish to ask further information or a question not answered here you can e-mail us at hocriss@yahoo.com. DO I HAVE TO ABIDE BY ANY DRESS CODE AT HCIC ? At HCIC, “fit and proper” is the order of the day. It goes without saying that uniformity must be maintained at all times. HCIC students are expected to appear in uniform during classes, preps, sports and even during free time, they are expected to wear the official school T-shirt. Assorted clothes are not allowed on campus and students are expected to wear low simple shoes and sandals. Conspicuous foot wears shall not be allowed. The school has a prescribed pullover and only that can be worn. Wearing an attire prescribed by the school is not sufficient uniformity, uniformity is doing the right thing at the right time and the right time is when everyone else is doing or expected to do same. WHERE DO HCIC STUDENTS COME FROM ? HCIC welcomes students from every part of the world as long as they are willing and able to live under the conditions we offer and abide to the rules and regulations governing the school. We have the greater majority of students from Cameroon, and a few from Britain and the U.S.A, next academic year, we could be having students from Equatorial Guinea, Chad and Gabon. We are open to all races of people without any discrimination. We encourage foreign diplomats and other foreigners who live and work in Cameroon and who seek a good Anglo-Saxon co-educational boarding school to send their children to HCIC. WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE HCIC ? In today’s modern society, passing through school is not just a matter of education but training. The needs and challenges of today are far more complex than we saw over the last two decades of the 20th century. In such an era of accelerated change, the kind of education we give our children must be adapted to the realities of our society and forecast the likely changes in near future. HCIC provides an education for life ant leadership under the notions of academic excellence, moral rectitude, balanced personality and sustainable leadership. Here are some reasons why you should choose HCIC. Our Style of Education Teaching children is a very delicate task, there are fast learners and slow ones as well. HCIC teachers are drilled in the area of child psychology which helps them connect better with the students, understand their needs and bring out their weaknesses. Tutoring which is our very strong teaching strategy is done by very few schools. Tutoring has shown to increase the confidence, understanding and performance of many of our students. Our class capacities are limited so as to keep everyone on “the front row”, this ensures a close monitoring of students by their teachers, unlike in other schools with 50 and sometimes up to a hundred students per class. In such chaos, teaching and learning become very difficult. Our teachers have the chance to even read the facial expressions of their students and deduce any problems, this facilitates both teaching and learning. Our children are allowed to express themselves in an interactive learning system, they even have to evaluate their teachers. Our Environment Like the saying goes, “beauty is goodness”. HCIC has a very beautiful environment iced with flowers of all types and colors, it is goodness indeed. The infrastructure itself is something to come and see, you can tell from it that it is owned by a good architect. Our beautifully built classrooms, dormitories surely increase the desire to live and learn for life and leadership. The school is planted on an 8 hectares parcel of land, leaving enough space for further development, fun and recreation. HCIC is located far away from the boom of Yaounde city life, free from distractions in town ,yet accessible to its necessities. The school is it’s own community as the students are limited the quietness of the school campus. The villagers of Akok have a very quiet lifestyle making it almost impossible to sometimes know that we have people living nearby. Our environment is very home friendly, enhancing both teaching and learning. Our Lifestyle HCIC students who come in from other schools have testified that the lifestyle in HCIC is comparable to none. The tendency of theft, brutality, oppression by a senior student, favoritism and other immoralities which are the order of the day else where is totally absent at HCIC. Our students live like a family with respect being a matter of reciprocity, from top to bottom and vice versa. “fit and proper” is the slogan guiding their conduct, and the general rule is same place, same time and for the same reason, this applies to everybody. Our students have learnt to be each other’s keeper, to love and respect the person and property of others and to care, and share with those in need. Prefects know that they have more duties than rights and that the slogan of prefect ship at HCIC is “leading by example”. The teachers are real parents to the students and the full presence of some teachers who live on campus helps coordinate the activities of the students. Our Facilities If life has to be comfortable and home-friendly in a village far away from town, a lot of facilities must be put in place to achieve this. This is exactly what we have done so that our students don’t miss anything or have any reason to leave school. HCIC students play on a beautifully designed multipurpose sports complex embodying, basketball, handball, volleyball and tennis. They have a marked out temporal football field which they use for now while awaiting the completion of their soccer pitch. HCIC students sleep in comfortable dormitories with water system toilets and good showers for bathing. The nice tiled bathroom walls and floors which give you some comfort in the “small house”, our dormitories are spacious, enabling free movement. Besides the electricity supply from A.E.S SONEL, we have two stand by electrical generators each of them can comfortably run the electrical needs of the school, the other one serves back up. CAN I BRING MY VIDEO GAMES, PHONES iPODS AND OTHER ELECTRONIC GADGETS TO SCHOOL? NO? HCIC students are not allowed to bring any electronic gadgets to school. There are a lot of facilities to occupy the students even during free time. T hey can make use of their numerous books in the library or use their compute lab. Any such unwanted items shall be seized if seen on campus, any student who brings such items to school does so at his own peril as the school shall not entertain any claims as to their loss or destruction. Students of higher classes are however allowed to bring a lab top computer to school which shall be kept by the school and used only during learning or free time, all other students may bring along a USB storage disk.
