HOLY CROSS INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE OFFICIALLY INAUGURATED
27th July, 2009
Saturday 16 May, 2009 saw the official inauguration of Holy Cross International College. The occasion which started at 11: Am graced by the presence of the Secretary General at the Ministry of Secondary Education Professor TAMBO LEKE, representing the Minister of Secondary Education.
The occasion started with the singing of the National Anthem and hoisting of the flag which was immediately followed by a solemn Holy Mass celebrated by Rev. Fr GILES NGWA, National Catholic Education Secretary and three concelebrating priests.
In an eloquent homily, Rev Fr GILES reiterated how right and fitting it was to begin such a day with Holy Mass in thanks giving to God by whom all things are possible. “Every branch of knowledge from the simplest to the arduous is a dim participation in the boundless divine knowledge” he said. He called on the management to opt for a holistic formation which fully attends to the needs of the human person, and to raise persons who are responsible and inner-directed, capable of choosing freely in conformity with their conscience, men and women who will be capable of thinking, judging and acting constantly and consistently in accordance with reason illumined by sound Christian and social values.
The Vice Principal, Mr. OJONG Francis, called on parents to send their children to a school which will prepare them to take on the challenges of the “real world”.
On his part, the Proprietor of the school, Mr. BUBAN NGU Emmanuel, could not hide his humility and strong sense of human by throwing the crowd into a laughing fit, before getting serious. “You must have a vision” he said and it is that vision you see being reflected in our structures, methods and environment. He said his vision is to raise up students in a manner that society will be proud of.
In his discourse on the vision of the college, John ENONGENE, P.R.O of the college told the audience that the school believes that education makes a people easy to lead but difficult to drive, easy to govern but impossible to enslave. The vision can be summarized in this very fine paragraph of his.
“We are raising a generation with a new sense of social responsibility, community service, critical thinking and informed judgment. A generation that will stand in the midst of right and wrong yet choose right, stair in the eyes of fear yet not stagger, a generation with a sense of patriotism, who understands that, just as they have rights, they also have duties, a generation that can respond at all times with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of the people. Yes we can, a generation that will change the nation and the world.”
